Wedding Sugar Cookies

I've been busy making up sample cookie designs for weddings. I showed you one for a beach wedding.

Now for the rest. I wanted them to be clean. Classic. Neutral. Elegant.

Quilted hearts.  I'm unsure about the dots around the border (not just on these but on all of them).  The dots aren't exactly "clean".  I wonder if no border at all would be better.  Or the dots matching the background.  Hmmmm.

I also wonder if a plain square shape would be better.  No scallops.

My Maryland crab cookies.  I've made these so many times.  Never in white though.

I always have cratering on these guys.  So very annoying.

Paisley cookies.  I did these with a stencil and petal dust.

The bunting cookie is one of my favorites.

Brushed embroidery flowers.  So pretty.  Sooooo time consuming.  I've watched many videos on brush embroidery.  SweetAmbs has one, as well as AliBee.

The grey and white flowers were done with icing.  The black one is painted on with food coloring.  I prefer the ones in icing.  More texture and dimension.

Love birds.  Another one that I've made several times, but not in white and grey.  This is SweetP's design.

Now this one might be my very favorite.  I painted the roses with food coloring.  I love the shabby chic look.  This design was inspired by Arty McGoo and SweetAmbs.  Arty McGoo taught us how to paint "squiggle roses" at Cookie Con.  SweetAmbs has a video showing how to do it.

The painting was soooo fun.  It was hard to stop!

It's time to start planning spring and summer weddings.  I hope that some of these designs will make a few wedding appearances!

Engagement Party Love Bird Sugar Cookies with Royal Icing Glaze

These are cookies that I made for my sister's engagement party.  I added lemon zest to the sugar cookie dough and lemon juice to the royal icing glaze.  Yum!

There are those love birds again!  I sure do love them.  I used SweetP's tutorial.  She uses transfers for the wings.  This is the first time that I did that for these birds.  Love it!

Um, should the wings be facing the other way?  I think so.  Oops.

Simple wet-on-wet dot flowers adorned the mini hearts.

The leftover transfers were used on mini rounds.

I used my new cake cutter from Plastics in Print.  What a great cutter that is!  Don't look at the icing mess I made of the stand.  For some reason that icing was really thick.  I tried to make it work but failed.  I scraped it off to try again, but it broke!

Oh well.  You can see it on the platter here with no stand.  It's still cute.

As I was plating them, I realized that I should have put half the flowers on the right side of the hearts and half on the left.  You know what I mean?  That would have made a nicer looking platter.  I love symmetry!

Want to see a bit of my sister's party? It was at my parent's house.  This is just one of the tables of food.  The savory stuff.  My mom made the table runners in a fabric that we picked out.  That fabric served as the inspiration for all of the decorating.  See that big square?  That's their existing artwork that we covered in leftover fabric.  It was my Mom's idea, which I thought was insane at first, then loved it!  The circles hanging was a wacky idea of mine.  I had planned on just hanging it on a wall somewhere.  I sewed paper circles in rows, tied them to a ribbon, and hung them at the top of the square.  We added a photo and a few rounds of red later.

This.  This cake was made by my 17 year old niece!  Isn't she amazing?  I wish you could see it better.  Swirled roses and beautiful piping.  Four layers!  She works in a bread bakery.  A girl after my own heart!

The tall glass jars later had sand and votive candles in them.  They looked really pretty both inside and outside.  The shorter jars held tableware.

These are paper flowers that I made.  I had no idea what I was going to do with them.  It's amazing what ideas come just by looking around at what you already have.  I used wooden skewers as the stems and tiny wooden candlesticks as the base.

Below are those sewn circle bannery hanging things.

The rectangle cards were used to identify the dishes.  My Dad wrote the name of each dish on the cards with his architect handwriting.  You know that old-school perfect handwriting?  All caps?  I've always loved the way he writes.

The rounds were printed with the couple's names and strewn about the place.

Making all of these decorations was really fun.  We purchased a pack of scrapbooking paper that matched our inspiration fabric and I just tried to come up with a bunch of things to do with it!

The party was a great success.  Lots of family and friends.  LOTS of food.

There were only a small handful of my cookies left at the end of the party.  Those were wrapped up by two of the remaining guests to take home.  That's always fun to see!

Flowers and Insects Platter - Sugar Cookies and Royal Icing

My neighbor needed a "thank you" platter.  (Hi ML!)  She gave me complete freedom to do what I wanted.  Love that!

Her request . . . girly, flowers, insects, summery, lots of minis.  Mission accomplished?  I think so.  I do love how it came out and it was so fun to decorate.  This has to be my favorite platter yet.

The flowers were plentiful.

Caterpillars, snails and butterflies were there to represent the insects.

Birds were there to, um, look cute.  The strawberries too.  (Isn't artistic license grand?)

I was super pleased with the plaque.  I inserted a mini flower up on the top.  Dressed it up a bit I think.

I've got to remember to do that with other minis!
I was so glad that she wanted a lot of minis.  They're always my favorite.

What?  Crabs aren't insects?  But we live in Maryland, and they're adorable, and I couldn't resist.  It's the whole artistic license thing again.

What again?  Crabs have legs?  Haven't you ever seen a crab missing a claw or leg?  Well this guy apparently lost 6 legs.  Artistic license?

Ok, I forgot to pipe his legs.  Dang it.  You would think that if I hadn't noticed while decorating, I would have noticed while he was front and center in all of the photos I took of the minis.  Sheesh.

Girly, flowers, insects, summery, lots of minis?  Check.

Birds, strawberries, and legless crabs?  Check.

Love Bird Sugar Cookies with Royal Icing

Love birds! Aren't they the sweetest? They would be fabulous for a bridal shower or wedding!

I've got to thank Dippin' Pops for these. I belong to a forum for cookie decorators. It's my go-to place to learn and be inspired. The ladies there are so encouraging and generous with their knowledge. Dippin Pops posted about her love bird cookies.  I just had to give them a go myself.

Then I had to make some bluebirds using the same cutter.  Super cute!

Bluebird Sugar Cookies Embroidered with Royal Icing

Two of my very favorite things coming together - embroidery and cookies!  Instead of fabric and floss, I used sugar cookies and royal icing!

I think that one of the main reasons that I love decorating cookies is because it's a combination of crafting and baking - both of which I love to do.

Most of my crafting is needlework - sewing, crochet, embroidery. Give me some fabric, thread, yarn, ribbon, a comfy chair and I'm happy.

I have embroidery patterns. Lots of embroidery patterns. Tons of vintage embroidery patterns from ebay. Old embroidery books from used book stores. New embroidery books. New patterns. Um, lots of patterns.

The vintage designs are often quirky.  The quirkier the better for me . . .

Those are some flour sack towels that I stitched up.

For a while now, I've been thinking of trying an embroidery pattern on cookies. I've seen many examples of brush embroidery cookies. Gorgeous (and something I want to try), but they don't look like the kind of embroidery I do.

This past weekend I took out my KopyKake projector, chose a cute vintage bird pattern and got to stitching. I mean decorating.

I am in love with the result!

I've only used the KopyKake a few times. I was still a little intimidated by it but felt much more comfortable this time.

There will be many more embroidered cookies in my future!
